Supporting Education and Community Growth Together.
At Briana J. Bigby Scholarship Fund Inc., our mission is monetarily assisting future generations of leaders pursuing their academic goals of going to college while giving back to the community at large.
Briana was an amazing self-motivated individual who was deeply committed to making a positive impact starting in her own community. Briana carried her spirit of community service from her leadership roles at the Yawkey Boys and Girls Club into the real world.
From the age of 13, Briana devoted her life and was actively engaged with various leadership and social service organizations such as (BCYF) Boston Center for Youth and Families, (GLC) Girls Leadership Corporation, (GLITZ) Girls Leading in Tough Situations and (GTA) Girls Taking Action. Within those groups she served as role model, peer leader, mentor, and counselor teaching young people about personal safety, leadership, and the importance of service to the community.
Briana matriculated through the Concord Carlisle School system in Concord, MA, through the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO) program. After graduation she went on to attend Morgan State University, one of the Historically Black Colleges (HBCU) in Baltimore, Maryland. She was pursuing a degree in advanced Social Work to one day work with at risk youth in the city of Boston and beyond where she felt it was needed most. She returned home where she worked two jobs. Citizens Bank by day, and she worked overnight for Communities for People Group Home as a Self Care Advocate for girls ages 16-21 which she felt started her career and was her purpose position.
Tragically, on June 1, 2013, at the age of 22, Briana fell victim to gun violence in Boston, MA. One of many causes Briana had hopes to one-day help combat.
Briana can no longer be here to do her life’s work, so we will continue to lift up her name as we carry on her legacy for a better future for our youth.
